Our guest today, author of the book, “Of Face Value” Carol Harper was on her way to work when she was hit head-on by a drunk driver.  In the 100 mph impact, Carol's face was ripped apart from the skull and her bones were crushed to powder.  The doctors didn't think Carol would make it through the night due to a severe brain injury. It is a miracle that she survived. There is no doubt that Carol Harper is one of the fortunate ones.  Most victims of drunk drivers don't survive.  She turned her tragedy into a triumph by telling her story to educate, inspire, and save lives.  She joins us today on Your Life Matters to share her story with our listeners.

Before being hit by a drunk driver and having six surgeries to rebuild her face, Carol was a vivacious, beautiful young lady with a successful career and everything to live for. As a public relations assistant at the Sheraton Park Hotel in Washington, D.C., she wined and dined with congressman and senators. Her looks were her livelihood.

After moving to Atlanta, her life changed forever. One morning at 8 a.m., a car crash destroyed Carol's face, shattering her bones and leaving her unrecognizable. Through this horrific accident, she lost her job, her husband, and her life as she knew it.

After six painful surgeries to rebuild her face, Carol never looked the same. She was suicidal and depressed, but God gave her the strength to go on. Her spirit remained determined to overcome any adversity.

Now Carol is passionate about sharing her story and saving lives. She is on the Victim Impact Panel of Mothers Against Drunk Driving and talks to convicted drunk drivers each month. Her target market is college students because so many of them are being killed as a result of drinking and driving.

Since joining Toastmasters International in 2002, Carol has become an accomplished speaker. She has received her Competent Toastmaster Award, Advanced Toastmaster Bronze and Competent Leader Award. Carol served as president of Toastmasters at the Square in Marietta from 2005-2006. Toastmaster Magazine published a feature article on her amazing story.

Carol's appearance on WAGA - TV Fox 5, Good Day Atlanta helped get her recognized. She has been a guest on TV 57, TV 23 in Cobb County, KTVO in Missouri, and several radio talk shows.

Of Face Value, a book based on Carol's true story, was published by Publish America and is inspiring people of all ages. Carol has had book signings at Barnes & Noble, Borders and Hastings bookstores. Her book has captured the attention of many readers throughout the United States, Mexico, The Bahamas, India and South Africa.

Her mission is to save lives by showing students that just one bad choice could impact them for the rest for their lives.
